When you move to another country, at the beginning everything is new and exciting but quickly things are starting to become normal and especially once you start working, the daily routine starts. Over are the days that every day feels like a holiday! You go to work, clean, cook, watch TV or meet friends..just like home. Even the weekend trips are getting less and brunches, sleep ins and food shopping become your new activities on Saturday and Sunday. We realised that a couple of months ago and I felt like I'm missing out on many things. I mean I live in Italy! People dream of coming here for their holidays and I prefer to watch kids cartoons in my pyjamas?? This is one of the reasons I started this blog. But the best motivation to get out there and see something new are visitors! I love when friends and family are coming and I can show them around, or well - due to my laziness- discover something new together. It is a chance for me to experience Italy like a tourist!

Let's take Milan: Quite frankly, I think Milan is overrated, especially when you have to go there for work or similar it stinks! Way too many people, crazy traffic, in summer it's terribly hot, in winter terribly wet... Well all this changes when we have guests. Usually we spend a day in Milan with them before they fly back home (the airport is the next bigger one to our home). So what do we do inthose few hours before there flight, that changes the way I look at this city? It's a day full of tourist fun!
Here are my top 5 things to do in Milan, if you only have a day:
Here are my top 5 things to do in Milan, if you only have a day:
- Visit the Dome: Even if you are not catholic you will sure find appreciation for the truly impressive architecture and inside is a wonderfully quiet and cool place where you can relax for a few minutes! I don't mean that in a disrespectful way at all, it is just really amazing to find such a place in this hectic, loud city.
- Shopping: Milan is one of the world's fashion capitals, so at least a bit ofwindow shopping is part of the game. Visit Galleria Vittorio Emanuele or Via Montenapoleone for the finer shops, Corso Buenos Aires for a little bit of everything and more affordable shops (H&M, Zara and Co.), for something a bit different try Corso Venezia or the Navigli district.

- Aperitivo: Before you enjoy the nightlife of Milan, relax, lean back, have a Spritz and some free snacks! Aperitivo time is definitely my favourite time of the day and I'm not alone. So just follow the Italians and find yourself a nice place for a drink and a snack after a day full of sightseeing! Try the Ticinese, Navigli or Brera district.
